For many of us, our ideal audience are people over the age of forty-five, a mix of the Silent Generation, Boomers, and some Generation X. With changes in technology and society, even the ways and needs of these audiences have shifted. Along with that we have the needs, expectations, and desires of the upcoming generations to consider from Millenials, Gen Zs and Generation Alpha who have specific traits for us to be aware of in terms of how they want to communicate online, in marketing, instore and in interpersonal contact. This workshop walks you through the key traits you need to take into account how you can make your practice more welcoming to a range of generational needs, and how your practice may need to adjust as new generations come through.

51499 Fit for their future – part 2 (EXPIRED – NEW COURSE COMING SOON)
CPD credit available: 1 General GenDO (Dispensing Opticians)
Following on from paediatric frames, this lecture will cover lenses dispensed for children in terms of material performance, designs, including spectacle options for myopia management and UV protection.
The way we order lenses can have a huge impact on the finished cosmesis so we will revisit surfacing versus stock lenses and what factors influence the thickness of a lens.
Parents and children have quite different needs when it comes to how we communicate. During this interactive session, we will discuss the patient journey taking into account the duality of communication, how the practice environment can affect the experience, the dispensing process and taking measurements, consent, tips on compliance and strategies for successful wear and care.
All children are different, and some children will present with additional needs for which we need to be aware, explore further and make reasonable adjustments if necessary. These can include neurodiversity such as autism, congenital conditions such as cerebral palsy and hearing impaired or Deaf children.
51490 Fit for their future – part 1 (EXPIRED – NEW COURSE COMING SOON)
CPD credit available: 1 General GenDO (Dispensing Opticians)
In the first section of this lecture on paediatric dispensing, we will firstly consider the current design of paediatric frames. In the main, these are scaled-down versions of adult designs so we will explore the impact of this on a child’s visual, educational, and social development.
The relationship between the frame measurements and facial parameters is crucial in understanding and directing our young patients to a frame that will fit their developing facial features.
Data from recent paediatric facial anthropometry research from over 1300 images of children’s faces will be shared considering gender, ethnicity and children with Down’s syndrome. This data is intended to be used to inform paediatric frame designs resulting in a more stable, comfortable fit. In addition, the data will be used to explain how the face develops in a growing child and how we relate this to what we require in terms of frame parameters and adjustment properties. We will then discuss common frame adjustments, limitations to those adjustments and modifications to current frame designs.
