The current Dispensing Optician CPD cycle is from 1 December 2022 to 30 November 2024.  You must complete the 20 credit requirement during this time to maintain your Annual Practising Certificate (APC). 

DOs are required to complete the following CPD over their 2 year-cycle along with Clinical (General) credits:

  • a minimum of one CPD Credit related to the Board’s Ethical Standards (2021)
  • a minimum of one CPD Credit related to the Board’s Cultural Competence and Cultural Safety Standards (2021)

All DOs must also hold a valid CPR/fist aid certificate, which includes NZQA unit standards 6401 and 6402

To practise as a dispensing optician in New Zealand, you must be registered with the Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Board (ODOB) and hold a current annual practising certificate (APC).  Practicing certificates are renewed annually, and it is illegal to practise without a current practising certificate.
